The Connecticut Writing Project
In addition to my full-time teaching duties & directing The Central Players, I am a Teacher Consultant for The Connecticut Writing Project @ Fairfield University, one of the network sites of The National Writing Project. Below are some highlights of the work I have done with them.
As a Teacher Consultant, I work closely with director Bryan Ripley-Crandall to help implement his vision for the site and provide resources to all teachers in our network. We travel to National Writing Project annual meetings and various other conferences like NCTE, presenting on the work we do at Fairfield University.
I really enjoy being a resource for teachers in Connecticut and nationwide, but more importantly, I love learning from and working with teachers in Connecticut and across the country.
Young Adult Literacy Lab Instructor
For the past five years I have been designing and implementing weeklong writing experiences for middle and high school students every summer. The most recent, and arguably the most successful have been Project: Citizen, a literacy lab designed around making arguments about political issues concerning students today.
We bring together urban, suburban, and rural students together for a two-week institute where they write their lives and say what's on their mind.
Grants & Projects
In 2014 a cohort of CWP teachers applied for singer John Legend's LRNG Grant, a challenge to educators to find ways to connect their classrooms beyond school walls and school bells. We were one of the pilot groups chosen and we brought together the wealthiest and the poorest schools from Fairfield County together to experience learning next to one another, instead of the zip code bubbles we live in.
